Shit happens and then you die

Hi there,

Sometimes the body works in mysterious, not let alone in ironic ways. For the past six months I've been healthier than ever, not even catching a single flu. But now, two days before my first gig in a long time, my body decides to invite a high fever and sore throat. What's up with that?
Anyway, I'm not letting a fever stand in my way. If I can sing in a fever than it should be a luxury to do it when I'm full of energy. With this thought I've been struggling to get well for two days now, and I'm doing pretty good. Well or not, I'm very excited about the gig tomorrow. I hope to see you there!

Cheers,

Jessica

Gigs and boas

Hi everyone,

I have a gig coming up on Saturday in Liberte in Helsinki. It would be great to have you in the audience! It's the first gig with this band. We have been working on some new songs I wrote a while ago and it's gonna be interesting to see how the audience responds to the songs.

Other than that I have a couple of more gigs coming up (you can read about them on the event list), and a photo shoot in a couple of weeks. I'm bringing Squischy (my snake) with me in case we could use him in a picture. I fed him yesterday so he should be happy and satisfied for about a month. He is very friendly so even if he would be hungry he wouldn't attack anyone unless they were carrying a rat or a rabbit.

Cheers,

Jessica

Wounds and laughter

Hi everyone,

Last week was a bit crazy. After working hard with the band for three days I went to Pietarsaari to act for a short movie. We had a lot of shots and very little time so we worked for about 12 hours a day. On Sunday we were in such a hurry that they drove me straight to the train from the film set.
First I didn't understand why most of the people on the train gave me such weird looks. I soon got the answer when a guy came up to me in the train restaurant and asked if he could by me a drink. With a worried look on his face he wondered if I was ok and if I had slipped. Then I understood what was going on. I had forgotten I still had the make up on. It wasn't just any make up. I had fake blood coming down my ears and a big bruise on my cheek. It looked like I had been wrestling in a mud pond or something. We had a good laugh after I explained what was going on.

Cheers,

Jessica

Songwriting

Hi everyone,

A lot of people have asked me if the stories in my songs are something I've gone through myself. The answer is both yes and no.
When I write a song it can all start from either a feeling, line, part of a melody or even just from a single word. If I have a clear idea or experience I feel like writing about, it sometimes happens that the song starts to "live it's own life" and head a different direction. In that case it's easy to get stuck if I try to hold on to the original idea and I often have to "kill my darlings".
That's why I can't say that everything I write about is directly taken from my own experiences, but the feelings and thoughts always represent something I've been through or felt myself.
I remember when I was offered a song about a bunch of girls going to a shopping mall and not letting the boyfriends join because they wouldn't understand girl talk. Well, if it wasn't for the fact that I hate shopping and most of my friends are guys, it would have been a great song to work with.

Cheers,

Jessica

Live and kicking

Hi everyone,

Chilling at home preparing for tomorrows song writing session. I have a lot of half done songs and hopefully we can finish one of them. It's always intersting how creativity goes in waves. You've got to grab it when you have it!
Other than that I had an interview at Metro Fm last Friday. I had a lot of fun and the guys were great! The day continued with a band practice which ended with karaoke and a couple of beers.
I'm looking forward to next week (except for a scary dentist appointment) thats filled with band practice, song writing and Kung Fu.

Cheers

It can always get better

Hi everyone!

I had a great band training yesterday. Playing with the band is absolutely the best of everything that has to do with music. I've sang my songs houndreds of times (poor neighbours) but still there's always something to work on. Just like acting, Kung Fu and many other things, you can always get better.
Tomorrow I'm off to Sweden to do some studio work. Haven't been there in a long time and it'll be great to meet my producer again. He's such an awsome guy.

Cheers,

Hi there,

Just came home from band training. I'm quite exhausted but in a good way. I've been up and running the whole day starting by getting new ear plugs, finally.
Other than that things are going great and I'm really looking forward to getting up on the stage.

Cheers,

Jessica

Ps. On Friday I'm having an interview at Radio X3M at 08:30. Be with me!
